A group of students from the National College of Sciences, organized as ‘cultural heritage watchmen’, carried out an important campaign to clean up solid waste at the Archaeological Site of Qochapata and on the pre-Hispanic road that leads to the Archaeological Site of Uku Uku, in the Q’enqo sector, located in the Sacsayhuamán National Archaeological Park.
The activity was carried out with the support of the technical and conservation staff of the Sacsayhuamán National Archaeological Park and the Environmental Management of the Provincial Municipality of Cusco.
The science students managed to collect more than 150 kilos of solid waste such as glass and plastic bottles, plates, plastic containers, papers, bags and others waste, thrown by visitors, who take walks in the area every weekend.
Approximately 50 people, including 31 students from the National College of Sciences, participated in the clean-up day, promoted by the Cultural Entity’s Heritage Defense Functional Area.
Solid waste collected They were transferred to the garbage collection vehicles of the Municipality of Cusco, whose officials coordinated this task. In addition, there was support from the Environmental Management, its technical team, a councilor from the local government and six people from the Cleaning Division of the Municipality of Cusco.
The exemplary activity was promoted by the Ministry of Culture, through the Decentralized Directorate of Culture of Cusco and the Provincial Municipality of Cusco, entities that also joined, with their staff, in the conservation of these heritage sites.
