School bonus 2026 of S/ 400: Who collects it, what are the requirements and when is it paid?

With the aim of alleviating the financial burden of the start of the academic year, the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) has ratified the conditions for the granting of the schooling bonus 2026.

Through Supreme Decree No. 002-2026-EF, it was established that the amount of this benefit will be 400 soles, which will be delivered only once a year.

Who is entitled to the benefit?

According to the Budget Law for Fiscal Year 2026, this bonus is aimed at a wide range of State workers and pensioners:

  • Education: University teachers and personnel appointed or hired under laws No. 29944 and No. 30512.

  • Health and Safety: Medical and assistance personnel (DL 1153), members of the Armed Forces and the National Police.

  • Public Administration: Servers under the regime of DL 276 and state workers under the private activity labor regime.

  • Other sectors: Public workers (permanent and temporary), prison servants and pensioners in charge of the State (under regimes such as laws 19846, 20530, among others).

As a general rule, workers under the CAS regime do not receive this bonus, unless it is expressly contemplated in their collective agreements.

Schedule: When are the S/ 400 deposited?

Payment is not made on the same date for all sectors. The schedule is distributed as follows:

  • January 2026: For the majority of public sector workers and pensioners. The deposit is made along with this month’s monthly payroll.

  • June 2026: Exclusively for contracted teachers and educational assistants who are governed by the Teacher Reform Law.

Mandatory requirements for collection

To access the full amount of 400 soles, staff must meet three fundamental conditions:

  • Work relationship: Be working at the time the standard comes into effect. It also applies to those who are on vacation, on paid leave or under health benefits.

  • Have at least three months of service. If you have less time, the payment is not cancelled, but is calculated proportionally to the days and months worked.

  • Single entity: If a worker receives income from two state entities, they will only collect the bonus in the one where they receive the highest remuneration.

The bonus in the private sector

Unlike the state sector, in private companies schooling is not a legal obligation. However, legal specialist Jessica Calle explains to América Noticias that, if a company grants this bonus for two consecutive years voluntarily, it becomes an acquired right for the employee. Likewise, the amount and dates in this sector depend on internal policies or collective agreements.
