The Argentine football coach, Lionel Scaloni considered the schedule “uncomfortable” chosen for Tuesday’s match between the world champions and Colombia for the eighth round of the South American World Cup qualifiers, due to the high temperatures in Barranquilla.
Scaloni pointed out that “the schedule (15:30 local time, 16:30 HB) is the same for both teams, I say this for the comfort of the footballer and the spectacle. It’s uncomfortable, I’m not saying that one or the other has an advantage. The schedule doesn’t help the show.”
“The context of the match will be normal, “Everyone wants their team to win on the field,” added the coach about the match that will be played at the Metropolitano stadium.
The Albiceleste comes from beating Chile 3-0 and will go into the match as leaders of the road to the next World Cup with 18 points, five ahead of Colombia, which occupies third place and tied 1-1 in Lima with Peru last Friday.
Scaloni spoke about the risk of dead ball, considered one of Colombia’s strong points, and warned that “We are not going to change our way of defending because of that. It’s a weapon they have and we have to be careful.”
At the last press conference before traveling to Colombia, Scaloni considered that it is likely that he will make changes, since Nicolás González and Alexis Mac Allister finished last Thursday’s match with physical discomfort, and he assessed that “we can make some changes, but we don’t know how many, there is still one day left.”
For this meeting, Argentina will be without star player Lionel Messi, injured since the Copa America final, which the Albiceleste won against Colombia, and the coach stressed that “we will wait for Leo to start playing. In two weeks we will have to give the list for the following matches and then we will see if he is fit.”
