The director of Dermatology and Skin Surgery Institute Dr. Huberto Bogaert Díaz (IDCP)Víctor Pou Soares, specified this Monday that in case it is confirmed that the skin disease detected in Haiti is scabiasis, our country has treatments and qualified personnel to respond.
He admitted that, as so far, no cases have been reported in the Dominican Republic, it is conjecture that leads one to believe that they are cases of scabiesscabies or scabiesas it is also known.
“If it is scabies, there is no need to fear. The first thing you want is for the population not to be alarmed, we see scabies in the institution all year round, it is a disease that is treated, controlled and cured”, assured Pou.
He said cases are more frequent in summer, where three to five patients are seen weekly.
The dermatologist warned that the problem of scabies It is not so much in the overcrowding but in the hygienic conditions, hence the importance of having access to clean water, bathing and maintaining the washing of sheets and hands.
He clarified that by greeting a person there will be no contagion, “must be continuous contact”.
He made a call not to self-medicate and recalled that “not everything that itches on the skin is scabies.”
For his part, the president of the Dominican Medical College (CMD)Senén Caba, said that the right thing to do is to provide guidance on the disease and hygiene as prevention.
Scabiasis is a condition caused by mites that cause itching when the female makes grooves in the skin to lay eggs, especially at night.
