Says CAASD cleaned up more than four thousand meters of ravines in 2022

Santo Domingo. – The general director of the Santo Domingo Aqueduct and Sewerage Corporation (CAASD), Felipe Suberví (Fellito), reported that during the year 2022 they sanitized four thousand linear meters of ravines in Greater Santo Domingo, out of a total intervened of 17 thousand linear meters, whose investment exceeds 969 million pesos.

So far in management, however, the institution has intervened around 40 kilometers of ravines in different sectors, as part of the space recovery plan and human face policy promoted by President Luis Abinader and which will benefit more than one million inhabitants.

Suberví said that during 2022, 18 sections were intervened in different tributaries, among which he cited: Los Girasoles, Peralejos, Marañón, Arroyo Seco, Arroyo Manzano and Villa Linda, whose work will begin in January 2023.

Among the ravines that were cleaned up, he cited: Arroyo Hondo, El Caliche section; Tiradentes, in Christ the King; Cassava; Villa Emilia, phase I, Santo Domingo Norte; West Cachon; Dos de Enero, and Los Dulceros in the National District, benefiting more than 50,000 inhabitants, as well as the reconstruction of 36 homes.

While the Jicaco, La Malanga, Arroyo Francisco, Café and Buenos Aires ravines, in Herrera, as well as Arroyo Hondo, Jardines del Norte section; Villa Emilia, phase II; San Luis, Los Rieles, in Los Alcarrizos; Paseo de la Gracia and Altos de Sabana Perdida, were in the completion phase for the first quarter of 2023.

He also explained that through these interventions comprehensive solutions are generated, because in addition to offering drinking water, sanitation, and housing services, these environments are recovered and converted into recreational parks and road crossings.

“In addition to the issue of water, the cleaning of ravines and recovery of spaces have been the north of our management. Throughout the year we carry out tours every weekend through different neighborhoods of Greater Santo Domingo, specifically, those located in the surroundings of ravines, where we carry out cleaning and removal of solid waste operations, in coordination with municipal authorities and neighborhood associations of each sector visited,” the official said.

He expressed that the important thing about these conferences is to raise awareness among the municipalities about the levels of contamination to which they are exposed when they throw solid waste into the tributaries.

“This is a problem that has been going on for years and that we, from the government, are doing our bit so that families become aware and somehow cooperate with the reduction of pollution and improve their quality of life,” he said.

One of the most important jobs this year was the enclosing and sanitation of the Tiradentes ravine, a place that, for years, was a center of vandalism and pestilential odors that affected the residents of the Cristo Rey sector, and where Cristo Rey is built. Park, which would be ready for the first quarter of 2023.

Regarding Guajimía, the director of the CAASD said that after ten years of complaints, the residents of the area around the canyon will be able to see phase II completed before 2024, whose work by the Canadian company Helios Group began with an investment of 50 million dollars.

Troubleshooting and trench closing

On the other hand, he highlighted that the CAASD corrected a total of 370 breakdowns of different diameters, as well as 640 unblockings in the drinking water distribution networks, which made it possible to considerably improve the service in different sectors.

The official explained that, during this week, CAASD brigades solved various breakdowns that occurred in sectors of the National District, as well as in the Santo Domingo Este, Norte and Oeste municipalities.

Likewise, he informed that all the trenches and perforations carried out by brigades of the institution were covered to avoid accidents and setbacks during the end of the year celebrations.

He added that the CAASD brigades work 24 hours a day to guarantee service to the population.
