Saúl Méndez: an illicit association process should have been opened to commit crimes against Minera Panamá

Judith Pena | February 13, 2023

The general secretary of the Single National Union of Construction and Similar Workers, Saúl Méndez, spoke on Radio Panama about different issues of national interest, among which he highlighted mining negotiations.

Méndez called on the Attorney General of the Nation to act for the benefit of the country and to open an ex officio investigation in the case of Minera Panamá.

The union leader assured that the government has fallen on its knees before the mining company and wondered where the prosecutor is who did not open an investigation into what he classified as a brazen robbery of Panama.

“The government keeps giving ultimatums as if they did not understand the etymological concept of the word and they continue to negotiate and the theft of the Panama mining company must be punished, because that company does not have a contract,” he said, noting that a process should have been opened. ex officio for the crime of illicit association to commit a crime because it is what is happening against national interests.

He added that the Government of Cortizo is committed to the interests of economic power and not to the national reality and the needs of the Panamanian people.
