This Saturday’s rains (19) caused flooding and landslides, opened craters, interrupted the circulation of trains and left displaced in several municipalities of the state of São Paulo.
On the coast, the most affected city was Guarujá. According to the State Civil Defense, the remote alert siren was fired, and an extreme attention was sent to residents of the João Guarda Barrier region to evacuate their homes. The families were guided to follow to the Sérgio Pereira Municipal School.
At Morro do Bio, there was a landslide, and the Civil Defense had to ban the area, removing 17 people who were sent to the shelter installed at the Municipal School. At Morro da Vila Baiana, a landslide caused nine families to be disrupted in a preventive manner and to go to the house of relatives.
In just six hours, it rained around 191 millimeters (mm) in Guarujá, above expected volume for the whole month, which is around 190.7mm. Since the beginning of the month it has rained 282 millimeters in the city.
In São Vicente, also on the South Coast, the asphalt gave way to the intersection between Rua Pero Lopes de Souza and Marechal Deodoro Avenue, endangering a building next door, which will still be analyzed.
In Campos do Jordão, a rain of strong intensity and gusts of wind caused landslides. In one case, a residence was reached and, after survey by the Municipal Civil Defense, needed to be banned. Four residents went to the relatives’ house.
The rains were also intense in Greater São Paulo. According to a survey by the São Paulo State Emergency Management Center, in just two hours it rained 84 millimeters in Diadema, 80% of the expected volume for all April, around 106.6 mm. In Santo André, in the same period, it rained 110 mm, surpassing the expected for the month (106.6mm).
Because of this, the Civil Defense even issued a severe alert for rainfall to the cities of ABC, Alto Tietê and Bertioga.
In Diadema, there were several flooding points, wall fall and motorcycles being dragged. In São Bernardo do Campo, the Paulicéia neighborhood was totally flooded. The Galileia neighborhood was also very affected, with some houses hit by the water. In the Piraporinha neighborhood, a bus was in island, and the Fire Department was called to assist in the removal of passengers. Nevertheless, there were no injuries or homeless.
In Mauá, the rains caused trees fall and a landslide near the Frajola Municipal School of Early Childhood Education. There was also landslide behind a residence in Jardim Zaíra, without reporting of injuries or homeless. In São Caetano do Sul, there was also a record of flooding.
In Campo Limpo Paulista, a landslide led to the fall of a wall, but there were no victims.
Because of heavy rain in the metropolitan region of São Paulo, there was temporary interruption in the operation of line 7-Ruby trains, between the Campo Limpo Paulista and Botujuru stations, caused by railway flooding points.
