This morning, nine people arrived at the Manuel Ángel Higa Arakaki Hospital in Satipo with severe burns on almost 80% of their bodies. Rio Negro Serenazgo agents who transported them reported that they came from a rehabilitation center where they were hospitalized due to various addictions.

Agents from the National Police and the Public Prosecutor’s Office arrived at the scene to carry out investigations. One of the injured indicated that while they were locked in a room, one of the inmates set fire to a mattress.

The executive director of the Satipo Health Network, Aldo Tineo Velita, and the director of the Satipo hospital coordinated with the Ministry of Health (MINSA) and the Peruvian Army for the transfer of the most serious patients to the Daniel A. Carrión, 2 de Mayo and Hipólito Unanue hospitals in Lima.

Two were taken in Samu ambulances and five on a humanitarian flight. Unfortunately, during their transfer to the capital, one of the victims died. Two other patients remain in the Manuel Higa Arakaki hospital and are in stable condition.
