Edilberto Ávila López and Oliver Day Ramírez Antaurco were sentenced for the murder of Basilica Fidelia Seminario Abanto, on December 17, 2023, in the district of Rio Negro, province of Satipo.

The provincial prosecutor, Melissa Acosta Chancan of the Second Provincial Corporate Criminal Prosecutor’s Office of Satipo, obtained a 35-year prison sentence against Edilberto Ávila López and a 30-year sentence against Oliver Day Ramírez Antaurco. According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, Edilberto Ávila wanted to resume his romantic relationship with Basílica Seminario and when the victim rejected her, he hired a hitman to kill her.

On December 17, 2023 at 5:00 a.m., both subjects entered Basílica’s room, located in the Portillo Alto Population Center in the Rio Negro district, found her asleep and took the opportunity to hold her hands and head and then stab her in the neck with a knife.

In their possession were found two cell phones and a laptop that belonged to the victim, two knives and several tools that were used for the murder.
Oliver Ramírez confessed that Edilberto paid him 500 soles to kill his ex-partner. With these elements of conviction, the conviction was determined against those involved in the murder of the teacher Basílica Fidelia Seminario Abanto and 25,000 soles as civil compensation.
