Satipo: Fire apparently caused by arson leaves nine injured in rehabilitation center

A fire at a Hombres de Valor rehabilitation center in the province of Satipo left nine inmates with burns on various parts of their bodies. Seven of them have 85% of their bodies affected and their condition is critical, so they will be transferred to Lima.

The director of the Manuel Higa Arakaki hospital announced that the seven people in critical condition will be transferred to Lima on a humanitarian flight, thanks to the efforts of the hospital and the Peruvian Army.

Regarding the causes of the fire, the representative of the Public Prosecutor’s Office did not want to give details, however, he mentioned that according to the testimony of the victims, the fire would have been caused by one of the people treated at the rehabilitation center, and the National Police is already searching for this alleged perpetrator.

According to testimony from one of the victims, they were locked in a room made of noble material, securing the entrance door. They screamed for help, but no one came to help them. The fire spread and they suffered several burns. After a few minutes they managed to open the door.
