São Paulo launches 6th edition of Samba com as Mãos

The city of São Paulo launches, this Sunday (10), in partnership with the Independent League of Samba Schools in the state (Liga-SP), the Samba com as Mãos project. It will be at 8 pm, on the court of the Águia de Ouro Samba School, in Barra Funda. This is the 6th edition of the project, which debuted in 2016 and provides videos with the translation into Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) of the 14 samba-plots from the schools that belong to the São Paulo Special Group.São Paulo launches 6th edition of Samba com as Mãos

The project’s videos were recorded in December of last year, at the headquarters of the Municipal Department for Persons with Disabilities (SMPED), and involved members of samba schools, Libras interpreters and people with hearing impairments.

According to the city hall, before the recording stage, there is a research and interpretation stage. “Specific study and commitment is necessary in this type of translation, since samba-enredo often use words of African origin and popular sayings. This requires the translator to work together with the author of the lyrics, so that nothing is lost and the context is maintained. The project is accompanied by deaf people until its conclusion”, informed the municipality.

The videos with the sambas-enredo in Libras began to be released on the secretary’s social networks (Instagram, Youtube and Facebook) since last Wednesday (6). The disclosure follows the order of the parades at the Anhembi Sambadrome on April 22 and 23, starting with Acadêmicos do Tucuruvi and ending with Império de Casa Verde. The secretariat foresees that all will be disclosed until the day of the parades.
