The city of São Paulo had the first day without deaths caused by covid-19 since March 2020 on April 2. According to the Municipal Health Department, the record considers the usual delay time of notifications for deaths caused by the coronavirus, which is of up to 15 days.
So far, there have also been no deaths from the disease on April 4, which could be the second day without victims of the virus. The secretariat notes, however, that there may be a retroactive change in the data, if new information arrives.
Vaccination
The municipal secretary of Health of São Paulo, Luiz Carlos Zamarco, attributes the reduction in deaths to vaccination. “São Paulo is the vaccine capital of the world and that helped us get here. The population of São Paulo adhered to and exceeded 100% complete vaccination coverage. The result can be seen in the case rates and now zero death rates,” he said.
30.4 million doses of vaccines against covid-19 have already been applied in the capital of São Paulo, with 11.7 million of the first dose, 10.9 million of the second dose and 353,000 of a single dose. Also, 6.8 million of the first additional dose and 602,400 of the second additional dose have already been used. Vaccination coverage for the population over 18 years is 110% for the first dose and 106% for the second dose. There are still 73.7% who received at least one additional dose.
In adolescents aged 12 to 17 years, 862.3% received the second dose of the vaccine, which represents 102.2% of this population. In children aged 5 to 11 years, vaccination coverage is 86.8% for the first dose and 52.5% for the second dose.
