Of the 78,288 candidacy registration requests for municipal elections in the state of São Paulo analyzed by the Electoral Court, 6% were rejected, are awaiting appeals or involve cases of cancellation by the party, resignation from candidacy or death. According to the Regional Electoral Court of São Paulo (TRE-SP), 2,107 requests were for the position of mayor, 2,137 for vice-mayor and 74,044 for councilor.
In the state, the Social Democratic Party (PSD) has the largest number of candidacies, with 7,112 people running for mayor or councilor positions. In second place is the Liberal Party (6,811 candidacies), followed by the Republicans (6,757), Brazilian Democratic Movement (6,233) and União Brasil (5,738).
In relation to the federations, the one formed by the Workers’ Party (PT), the Communist Party of Brazil (PC do B) and the Green Party (PV) brings together the largest number of candidates: 4,304. Next are the Brazilian Social Democracy Party (PSDB) and Citizenship, with 4,299, and the Socialism and Freedom Party (PSOL) and the Sustainability Network (1,601).
