A 75-year-old man died yesterday afternoon (25) in a flood, on Rua Piata, Vila Guilherme, in the north of São Paulo. Thirteenth victim of the rains in the state, he tried to remove his vehicle from the road during a downpour, but was knocked down by a flood, dragged by the current and, tied to another vehicle, he could not resist. With this, the state is approaching the total number of deaths due to rain in the summer of 2024-2025, when 18 people lost their lives in a similar situation.
The death, the fourth in the capital due to rain since last December, was registered as accidental in the 13th Police District, in Casa Verde. The rain shower hit the region in the middle of the afternoon, with a state of attention being registered by the City Hall’s Emergency Management Center at 3:35 pm, around 20 minutes before the fatality, coming from the interior of the state, in the Campinas region.
The eastern zones, where two streams overflowed, and the northern region of the Metropolitan Region were also affected. In the city of Guarulhos, around a dozen neighborhoods were affected. A man was swept away by the waters in the Taboão neighborhood, but managed to escape with his life. The wind records in the region were also intense, in the range of 60 km/h near Guarulhos international airport and in the range of 50 km/h in the Santana region, where the man mentioned at the beginning of this report died.
In the state, so far, there have been 259 homeless people recorded this season, of which 22 remain in this situation. The state Civil Defense also registered 647 homeless people.
The region remains on danger alert for intense rain until Monday night (26), according to the National Institute of Meteorology, with the possibility of accumulations of up to 100 mm and winds of up to 60km/h. The alert extends to the entire north coast and eastern part of the state, up to the region of Ribeirão Preto, in the northwest, south of Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro, in addition to the south of Goiás. The entire central portion of the country, including the North, Central-West Regions and parts of the Northeast and Southeast has a moderate alert for the same date, with the possibility of accumulated rain.
