Deputies of the Legislative Assembly of the State of São Paulo (Alesp) filed this Friday (6) the impeachment request against the state’s Secretary of Public Security, Guilherme Derrite. The request, signed by 26 deputies, denounces recurring cases of abuse of power and homicides committed by military police officers.
According to the text, the state administration, under the management of Secretary Guilherme Derrite, has been silent in the face of cases of abuse committed by police agents in the last two years. “The repetition of these episodes reveals a pattern that characterizes the reality of the current administration: an administration that, in practice, normalizes crises of insubordination, omits to face the alarming increase in police violence and ignores the racism perpetrated in police procedures”, says the text.
In the impeachment request, the deputies list 12 cases of police violence recorded in the last two years. Among them, the death of Felipe Vieira Nunes, a 30-year-old street vendor, whose body was found in Vila Baiana, in Guarujá (SP), with signs of torture, including cigarette burns and bruises on the head, after, according to witnesses, been approached by police officers.
The text also cites the case of Marco Aurélio Cardenas Acosta, a medical student at Anhembi Morumbi College, who was killed by a military police officer in a hotel in the capital of São Paulo. “Despite the police officers’ narrative that the student was upset, aggressive and tried to pull the officer’s gun, the images from the security camera do not match what was reported: the victim did not try to reach the officer’s revolver”, says the text.
The impeachment request also highlights the case in which a military police officer threw a delivery man from above a bridge, in a stream, in the capital of São Paulo, in the neighborhood of Cidade Adhemar. “Initially, through the images, it is possible to identify three Military Police agents on a bridge. One of them lifts a motorcycle off the ground and leans it against the wall. Afterwards, a fourth police officer appears holding a young man from behind and throws him from the top of the bridge.”
The deputies request, in the text, that the state secretary of Public Security, Guilherme Derrite, be convicted of the crimes of responsibility for violating the free exercise of the social right to public security, and against probity in administration, with the consequent loss of office and disqualification from holding public office for a period of five years.
The impeachment request is signed by deputies Ana Perugini (PT), Andréa Werner (PSB), Beth Sahão (PT), Carlos Giannazi (PSOL), Antonio Donato (PT), Ediane Maria (PSOL), Eduardo Suplicy (PT), Emídio De Souza (PT), Enio Tatto (PT), Guilherme Cortez (PSOL), Jorge Do Carmo (PT), Leci Brandão (PCdoB), Luiz Claudio Marcolino (PT), Luiz Fernando Ferreira (PT), Márcia Lia (PT), Maria Izabel Azevedo Noronha (PT), Marina Helou (REDE), Mário Maurici (PT), Monica Cristina Seixas Bonfim (PSOL), Paula Nunes Dos Santos (PSOL), Paulo Batista Dos Reis (PT), Paulo Roberto Fiorilo (PT), Rômulo Fernandes (PT), Simão Pedro (PT), Teonilio Barba (PT), and Thainara Faria (PT).
