São Paulo beats Corinthians and is five-times Copinha champion

On the anniversary of the capital of São Paulo, São Paulo defeated rival Corinthians 3-2 this Saturday (25) and won the Copa São Paulo junior football title for the fifth time in history. Paulinho (twice, once the final goal) and Andrade scored for the Morumbi team, while Denner and Gui Negão scored the goals for Timão. São Paulo beats Corinthians and is five-times Copinha champion

With the achievement confirmed, São Paulo now appears second on the list of biggest winners of the competition (along with Fluminense and Internacional), behind only Corinthians itself, which has eleven titles.

This Saturday’s final marked the return of a traditional football stage in São Paulo. The Pacaembu stadium – now called Mercado Livre Arena Pacaembu – which has been under construction since 2021, received a Copinha decision again. Owner of the best campaign, São Paulo had all the stands available to its fans – the classics in the city are played with a single crowd.

Under the intense heat in the capital of São Paulo, the classic Majestoso took a while to warm up. At the 25 minute mark, the first emotions, in sequence. Nicollas hit the São Paulo post with a low shot and, soon after, Ferreira took a risk from outside the area and stopped at the Corinthian crossbar.

After the hydration break, the goals started to come. At 33, Denner was launched from the left, beat the defender using his body and finished past goalkeeper João Pedro.

Ten minutes later, the ball was launched from the Corinthians defense and, after a header in the middle of the way, Gui Negão appeared free and, with a light touch, covered João Pedro, expanding.

In the additions of the first stage, Tricolor made a discount. After a corner kick from the right, Paulinho rose alone and headed the ball into the goal.

In the second stage, pushed by the fans, São Paulo set a strong pace and continued to use aerial play to hurt their rival. The goals that turned the score around came close to each other.

At 16, again from a corner, but this time on the left side, the ball was raised in the area. Andrade rose higher and headed towards the ground. The ball passed between goalkeeper Kauê’s legs and went in.

Four minutes later, Paulinho was thrown onto the back of the Corinthians defense and, once again with a header, he finished into the left corner to turn the score around. Tricolor managed to hold on to the result that gave them their first Copinha title since 2019.
