Sanz Lovatón says the Dominican Republic has become the center of trade in Latin America

Sanz Lovatón afirma RD se ha convertido en el centro del comercio de Latinoamérica

NEW YORK.- The Director General of Customs in the Dominican Republic, Eduardo Sanz Lovatón (Yayo) stated here that the country has become the center of trade in Latin America.

He gave the example of what is produced in Colombia and is wanted to be exported to the USA, It will pass through the DR, because we have the infrastructure of ports and airports.

“We have married the infrastructure carried out for the more than 10 million tourists who visit us, so that these planes and the transport infrastructure that serves trade, with a new General Law on Customs, maritime trade, and logistics centers, aims at a trade promotion strategy to make the DR a new economic sector,” said Sanz Lovatón.

“The people They obviously know us for our coffee, sugar, cocoa, for our industrial capacity and tourism power, and now they are going to know us for our logistical power, because in the post-pandemic world there is what is called near-shoring and friendly-shoring,” he added.

He said that after what happened in the pandemicthat the chain of large consumer centers (USA and Europe), with the disruption that there was with trade between China, East and West, then we have wanted to return to the coasts that are close, with which we have cultural and behavioral identities and that has benefited us.

“We are involved in all of this, and the person speaking to you is definitely a standard-bearer of the ideology that the future of the DR has a lot to do with our ability to connect with you, the Dominican community residing in this country, which has opened its doors, has positioned itself as a fundamental reason for being, not only for the life of the state of NY“, said.

“Also for the life of the states of Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Florida, Maryland, Virginia and many other parts of USAwhere Dominican communities already have decisive political representation.”

The customs official, while participating in the 47th Annual Gala held by the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) in Washington DCchaired by Congressman Adriano Espaillat, described it as an example of the deep penetration of our community in this country.

“I saw the Congressman introduce the president Biden in this important conclave that brings together and convenes Spanish-speaking leaders throughout the United States.”

“At the end of the day, what it is about is telling the story of a country (DR) that in these last four years has become the example of Latin Americain demonstrating how to emerge from a pandemic, recover, and we have turned the Caribbean country into a world-class “Logistics Hub”.

Sang Lovatón offered her statements during a news conference held at the office of Democratic Assemblyman (D-78), George Alvarez, in the Bronx, where he previously held a meeting with several Dominican elected officials in NYC, including Yudelka Tapia, Karines Reyes, Manny de los Santos and Councilwoman Pierina Sanchez.
