Santo Domingo – The Ministry of Defending paid a posthumous tribute to Mrs. Zaida Ginebra Vda. Lovatón, giving her name to the XXXII Promotion of Voluntary Military Service, for her defense of public liberties, national identity and the active promotion of morality and good customs.
In the act headed by the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, the Ministry of Defense granted a posthumous recognition to Mrs. Zaida, who was received by Zaida Lovatón de Sanz and Eduardo Yayo Sanz Lovatondaughter and grandson, respectively, among other relatives who were present.
“His valor and courage were demonstrated in historical stages as challenging as the feat of April 1965 and the subsequent periods from 1966 to 1978, as well as during his eight-year tenure (1978-1986) at the head of the National Commission for Public Shows and Radiophony”, the agency assessed, about Mrs. Zaida.
Doña Zaida’s daughter was very moved by the recognition, motivated the graduates to pursue a military career with integrity, and called on civilians to respect and value their soldiers.
“I am going to say something that my mother told me when the Trujillo era ended: ‘…this country has to thank God for the Armed Forces that we have left,’ the future of the country rests on you,” said Zaida Lovatón upon receiving recognition on behalf of the family.
In this graduation of the Thirty-second Promotion of the Values Training Program for Students of the Secondary Education Level of the Voluntary Military Service, some 2,934 young people of both sexes joined this organization simultaneously at the national level 1,275 present at the central act, while in the northern region, the eastern region and the southern region, with 811, 540 and 308 respectively.
There are 65,433 young graduates in twenty-one years, of which 53% belong to the female gender and 47% to the male.
During the graduation, the president, Luis Abinader, announced the delivery of a laptop for each of the new volunteers, to contribute to the continuity of their military and academic training.
The table of honor of the act was made up of the president, Luis Rodolfo Abinader Corona, in his capacity as Supreme Authority of the Armed Forces; the Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Luciano Díaz Morfa, ERD; Zaida Lovatón de Sanz, on behalf of the Sanz Lovatón family; Raquel Arbaje, first lady; Alberto Then, director of the National Police; Major General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre, General Commander of the Army; Major General Carlos Ramón Febrillet Rodríguez, General Commander of the Air Force; and Vice Admiral Francisco Antonio Sosa Castillo, General Commander of the Navy.
About Mrs. Zaida
Zaida Ginebra Vda. Lovaton (1914-1985). She was born on January 27 in Puerto Plata and married the prominent lawyer Máximo Lovatón Pittaluga.
He stood out in the Civil War of 1995, where in addition to joining the cause, he lent his residence in the Gazcue sector as a center of operations and meetings.
During 1978-1986 he was in charge of the National Commission of Public Entertainment and Radiophony.
“What we consider extraordinary in Mrs. Zaida, among other things, is precisely that, having established herself as a protector of morality and good customs, freedoms, democracy, childhood, youth, the family, in short, protector of everything his beloved people”, expressed the military authorities during the award ceremony.
