With the result, Peixe reached 11 points, the same score as Unión La Calera (Chile), who defeated Universidad Católica (Ecuador) 3-2. With this combination of results, the Brazilian team secured the spot in the next phase by finishing the first phase with a more positive attack than the Ecuadorians.
In Vila Belmiro, Santos opened the scoring in the 35th minute of the first half with Marcos Leonado in a penalty kick. But just before the break, the Argentine team left everything even with a shot from outside the area of Domingo.
