Santos escapes relegation, but is out of the quarterfinals of Paulista

Santos managed to escape an unprecedented relegation in the Paulista Championship by defeating Água Santa 3-2, this Saturday (19) at Vila Belmiro, in a game for the 12th round of the first phase of the Paulista Championship.

However, the result was not enough for Peixe to reach the quarterfinals of the competition, because Santo André secured the 2nd position of Group D (only the first two of each group advance in the competition) by defeating Inter de Limeira by 2 to 0, and now get Bragantino in the knockout.

The game

Despite wanting to get away from relegation, Santos saw Água Santa open the scoring in the 9th minute of the first half, when Dadá Belmonte took advantage of the live ball after a corner kick to shore up.

However, two minutes later, Peixe managed to equalize the score with Vinícius Zanocelo, who took advantage of the leftover ball to kill in the chest and hit placed to score a beautiful goal. And Santos did not take long to take the advantage. At 15, Lucas Braga crossed for number 10 Ricardo Goulart, who played fish.

Even with the partial advantage, the team led by Argentine Fabián Bustos continued to press and expanded in the 28th minute, with Kaiky, who took advantage of a cross from Lucas Pires. At 40 minutes of the final stage, Rodrigo Sam still scored, but the final triumph went to Santos.

Sao Paulo triumph

Who also entered the field this Saturday (19), but in a very comfortable situation, was São Paulo. As it was already classified for the quarterfinals as leader of Group B, the team led by coach Rogério Ceni faced Botafogo-SP with an alternative formation.

However, this was not a problem for Tricolor do Morumbi, who triumphed by 2 to 1. The score was opened by Argentine striker Rigoni after 4 minutes of rolling. At 21 of the second half the side Jean hit a bomb to leave everything the same. But São Paulo got the final victory thanks to a goal by Luciano at 40.
