The Fire Department of Baixada Santista, on the coast of São Paulo, reported the occurrence of a new fire in the community of Caminho São Sebastião, part of Dique Vila Gilda, in the northwest area of Santos. At least five shacks were hit, in an area of stilts. The fire is under control and in the cooling phase, with the work of 14 firefighters.
With an estimated population of around 25 thousand people, the community experienced two fires last year and one in last tuesday (27).
The largest of them, in August 2025, destroyed 100 homes, some of them on stilts. At the time, one person died and 331 families were affected, of which 33 had to be sent to a temporary shelter.
The Caminho São Sebastião and Dique Vila Gilda are in the process of redevelopment, with municipal, state and federal resources and expected to be completed in around five years.
