This afternoon, during his visit to Tumbes, the head of the Ministry of the Interior, Juan José Santiváñezreferred to the possibility of applying the death penalty for sexual offenders of minors and supported what was said by Dina Boluarte.
The minister commented that there are crimes that should be punished with the most severe penalties.
“I absolutely agree that the death penalty against rapists be put on the table for debate, especially in vulnerable populations, such as children. It is an issue that we should have debated a long time ago,” he said in conversation with a local newspaper.
“Until the last consequences”
This morning, he declared to the press that the investigations into the case of the 12-year-old girl murdered in Villa María del Triunfo will be carried out as they should be and “to the last consequences.”
“First, I would like to express my condolences and my dismay over this terrible case. During the morning, when we became aware, what my office did was immediately arrange for the Internal Affairs office to be at the police station to verify the statements that the girl’s relatives are providing, especially in the care,” said the authority.
However, he did not question the lack of response that the Police gave to the victim’s family when they went to formalize the complaint about the disappearance in the José Gálvez police station.
“At this moment, I would not like to advance any opinion either for or against. What I do want to guarantee is that we are going to reach the ultimate consequences,” he added.
Finally, he stated that police officers have the obligation to receive a complaint and act immediately.
