The Minister of the Interior, Juan José Santiváñez, assured that in the coming days he will sign the document authorizing the lifting of the secrecy of his communications, within the framework of the investigation being followed by the Prosecutor’s Office for alleged communications with the Police captain, Junior Izquierdo, ‘Culebra’.
The head of the Mininter justified his absences from the tax summons by pointing out that these coincided with official activities.
“The four occasions in which we have been summoned by the Public Ministry have unfortunately coincided with official activities, duly accredited with air tickets and prior summons,” explained the minister who pointed out that, as his lawyer declared, the Prosecutor’s Office has the power to having requested this from the Judiciary, “but it has not done so.”
According to a report from the Punto Final program, Santiváñez was summoned four times to sign the document so that the Public Ministry could access his telephone call history.
“We understand from press information that in the coming days we will be notified so that our signature can be taken in the ministerial office and we will do this in a transparent manner,” he said.
The television report details that the questioned head of the Interior requested that the appointments of August 29, September 11, October 2 and November 4 be rescheduled.
Santiváñez is being investigated for the alleged crime of abuse of authority related to alleged communications with PNP captain Junior Izquierdo, alias ‘Culebra’. This 29th, the 120-day deadline for the Prosecutor’s Office to investigate this case expires and so far it has not been able to access the minister’s calls.
