SANTO DOMINGO.– The former director of the National Health Insurance (Senasa), Santiago Hazimwas formally arrested this Saturday after being interviewed by prosecutors at the Attorney General’s Office, as confirmed by his lawyer, Miguel Valerio.
Upon leaving the building, Valerio reported that the Public Ministry will present the request for a coercive measure “within the next 48 hours,” at which time the defense will establish a position.
“Mr. Hazim was arrested. We are waiting for the coercive measure, and in that scenario we will talk,” he declared.
The lawyer avoided offering details about the charges, arguing that it will be the request for coercion that will specify the accusations linked to the investigation into alleged administrative irregularities in Senasa. He also did not comment on the situation of other possible parties.

Valerio indicated that the former official was interviewed by the Public Ministry and provided “reliable answers” on the points investigated. He added that the defense remains “at the disposal of justice.”
Although he did not confirm the exact time, the lawyer indicated that Hazim could be transferred tonight to the preventive prison of the New City Courthousefollowing the provisions of the Public Ministry.
