Santiago Cafiero received the new Ukrainian ambassador in Argentina

Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero received this Friday at the San Martín Palace the new Ukrainian ambassador to Argentina, Yurii Klymenko, who gave him the copies of credential letters that certify him as diplomatic representative of the European country in Buenos Aires, it was officially reported.

The meeting, held this afternoon in the office of Foreign Minister Cafiero, was propitious so that, one year after the start of the war between Russia and Ukraine and its NATO allies, the Argentina reiterates the “urgent call for a cessation of hostilities and the need to resume the negotiating table, the only way to achieve a lasting peace”indicated the Argentine Foreign Ministry in a statement.

In this way, -according to the official document- Argentina ratified at the meeting its commitment to the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity of States and human rights, “permanent axes of our country’s foreign policy, for which reason it rejects the use of force as a mechanism to resolve conflicts and reiterates its condemnation of Russia’s invasion of Ukrainian territory.”

Former Ukrainian representative to international organizations, Klymenko is a career diplomat, and assumes his functions with the rank of Ambassadorreplacing the previous representative of Ukraine in the country, the charge d’affaires, Sergiy Nebrat.

“Argentina and Ukraine established their diplomatic relations in 1992. Both countries are also united by strong historical ties and the migratory currents from Ukraine, which contributed the richness of its culture to the Argentine identity and its harmonious diversity”, highlights the statement from the Palacio San Martín.

It rejects the use of force as a mechanism to resolve conflicts and, in this sense, reiterates its condemnation of Russia’s invasion of Ukrainian territory,” said a statement issued this Friday by the Foreign Ministry.
