The bank, led worldwide by Ana Botín, condemned the invasion and expressed its solidarity with the citizens of Ukraine by eliminating commissions on all transfers allowed from European countries to Ukraine.
Account and card fees for Ukrainian customers in Poland were also suspended, free use of ATMs was allowed, giving permanent use of cash in branches and ATMs.
The bank reported an initial donation of one million euros to the Red Cross and UNHCR, the UN refugee agency. “In addition, Santander will match additional donations made by its employees,” it said in the statement.
