Santander México said that despite participating in the Banamex purchase process, it considers that it is not a condition to continue being successful in the national market.
Chavez said the sale “will change the competitive landscape of the Mexican banking sector,” something we haven’t seen in the last two decades.
Santander Mexico said that it has a capital of approximately 26,000 million pesos and is analyzing the possibilities in which it can buy the bank.
“I think the alternatives are open and we would study all the opportunities: the best way to put together a financing package, there are different alternatives that go from issuing capital locally or issuing different capital values,” Chavez said.
Last week Ana Botín, who is the director of Santander at a global level, made a visit to Mexico and met with President López Obrador. The businesswoman said that she came to reiterate her commitment to the country.
