At 5:00 p.m. this Wednesday the march for the Population Census will begin in the Student Square and Housing. The special commission of the Departmental Legislative Assembly convened this citizen demonstration to demand that the National Institute of Statistics provide a detailed report on the acts of preparation of the census that are being carried out.
The departmental assemblywoman and member of the commission, Paola Aguirre, pointed out that a transparent census is being requested and to that each region be given the resources that correspond to it, for which he regretted that the INE maintains the position of not providing information and not involving the regions.
Aguirre explained that on repeated occasions letters were sent requesting a meeting with the directorr of the INEbut they denied the request and told him to look for information on the website, which he described as “lack of respect.”
For his part, Fernando Larach, vice president of the Civic Committee, pointed out that the march will start from the Plaza del Estudiante at 5:00 p.m. this Wednesday and will end with a protest in the cathedral. Furthermore, he clarified that This demonstration was not called by the civic entitybut it was done by the special commission created to follow up on the census.
Larach asked the INE to inform about the acts that preparations are being carried out to know in a transparent way all the processes of the Census, since he indicated that the distribution of resources by inhabitants to the nine departments of the country depends on this activity.
The rector of the Gabriel René Moreno Autonomous University, Vicente Cuéllar, announced that university students will join this march to demand transparency in conducting the census that is scheduled for November 16.
He also said that a questionnaire with questions for the director of the INE explain the procedures that are being carried outbut they only obtained basic information on some concepts, which did not meet the expectations of the Santa Cruz institutions.
