In the first months of the Sanitation Framework investments in the sector rose from R$4.5 billion to R$45 billion. The balance was made by the Minister of Regional Development, Rogério Marinho, during an interview with A Voz do Brasil this Friday (11). “Our deficit, which is 100 million Brazilians who do not have sewage treatment, in this first year we managed to allocate enough resources to solve 10% of the deficit”.
The minister points out that a new project structuring fund was created with a contribution of R$ 750 million reais and that eight more auctions are expected to be held, in addition to the others already concluded. The minister believes that the universalization goal will be met within the stipulated period. “Having treated sewage and quality water substantially improves public health; you decrease infant mortality; you allow the implantation of industries, commerce, services; you properly treat domestic sewage,” he says.
Marinho clarifies that Marco also includes solid waste, that is, dumps. According to him, there are 3,000 open-air dumps. “We are structuring projects together with the municipalities so that they have the ability and the possibility to solve the problem through what they call controlled sanitary landfills.”
The minister also spoke about assistance to municipalities affected by the rains, land tenure regularization and housing programs.
