Sangriento September: murders, femicides and robberies reflect insecurity in Cuba

Cuba, violencia, feminicidios

The month closed with at least 11 murders, 4 femicides and 15 documented robberies in different provinces, a balance that demonstrates the disability and lack of interest of the authorities to stop violence.

Madrid, Spain.- The month of September 2025 left in Cuba a shocking balance of violence: at least 11 murders, 4 feminicides and 15 documented robberies in different provinces. The cases, collected from official reports, publications in social networks, independent and sporadically state, show a pattern of increasing insecurity that contrasts with the silence of the authorities, who do not publish official statistics on crime.

A sequence of murders that shook several provinces

Sancti Spíritus was the scene of some of the most violent episodes. On September 13, two murders were reported On the same day: one in front of the House of Music, after a street fight, and another in the central Céspedes street, where a man attacked his victim in full public roads. That same day, a hooded man broke into the house of Eduardo González and brutally attacked it with a machete; After several days of struggle for his life, he died 17 at the Provincial Hospital.

In Cabaiguán, a young man identified as Yasiel Reyes died after receiving a shotgun shot during a family dispute over land and money, while in Santiago de Cuba, a man known as “Cuquito” lost his life after receiving a stab in his neck during a discussion on public roads.

Havana did not escape either: there was killed the young Yordan Revé Abrahatic during a family altercation. In the capital two women were also found in violent circumstances: Nieves Rosa Castrillo, 62 -year -old laboratoryfound in a pond after several days missing, and Fredesvya Zaida Pérez Poey, 86 -year -old retired teacher who died after an attack inside her home.

One of the most shocking crimes against the forces of the order itself occurred in Caibarién, Villa Clara, where the captain of the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) Leonel Mesa Rodríguez He was found dead with bullet impacts and white weapon wounds. The suspect was captured with the officer’s regulatory weapon in his possession.

The most shocking case of the month took place in Artemis: Arisbel Cabeza Reyesfugitive for several days, he was captured and accused of killing three people: an old man and his son at the El Cusco farm, and his ex -partner, whose body was found in an advanced state of decomposition.

September left at least 11 fatal victims in different violent episodes distributed in six provinces.

Femicides that the State does not recognize

The independent feminist platforms do believe you in Cuba and tense wings confirmed four femicides that occurred in September, all in a context of sexist violence and with patterns of institutional unprotection.

In Artemisa, Arisbel Cabeza Reyes was also accused of killing his ex -partner, Mercedes Cantero Rodríguez, 64. In Matanzas, Yamila Zayas, 35, was killed After denouncing his aggressor in the police just one day before, without receiving protection.

Another case that shocked the population was that of Daily Acosta, a young mother of two girls, found dead near Lenin Park in Havana after two days of search. Days later, in Jagüey Grande, Matanzas, Yarisleidis Reyes Alfonso was killed by his ex -partner, a man with a wide criminal history.

With these facts, the observatories tense and I do believe you count 33 femicides so far from 2025. From 2019 to October 1, 2025 they have documented more than 300 femicides, although they recognize that it is only a sub -registration against the magnitude of sexist violence in the country, while the Cuban state continues to officially recognize the magnitude of the problem or typify the feminicide in its Criminal Code.

Theft: fuel, cattle, temples and homes

Along with the murders and femicides, September witnessed at least 15 documented robberies in several provinces, some with extreme violence.

In Havana, the theft of hundreds of liters of diesel was reported in the San Agustín Bus Terminal, amid the serious energy crisis. Also in the capital, a custodian of the Castle of La Punta was seriously injured after an assault in the early morning. In Guanabacoa, The Potosí hermitage suffered a new vandalic attack and the theft of religious objects in what was his seventh looting in recent years.

Also in the capital there was a robbery with extortion in which the thieves took objects from a house and kidnapped a dog, demanding rescue in foreign currency. In San Miguel del Padrón, a security camera captured a thief trying to steal the fence of a house and other objects.

Matanzas did not escape crime: a winery near the pediatric hospital was looted.

The theft of cattle continues without brake. In Sancti Spíritus, an inmate in penitentiary pass was surprised stealing and sacrificing a horse, while in Santiago de Cuba neighbors reduced a young man who tried to steal a cow in Songo-La Maya.

In Santiago de Cuba there were also several episodes of urban robbery: a chain rambling stopped by the neighbors, the capture of a band that dismantled motorcycles, and the arrest of a young man who had stolen a cell phone in the middle of the street. That same month, two men were arrested in Sancti Spíritus after stealing three televisions in a primary school.

In the tunas, two individuals devalued a house and transport the objects stolen in a horse car. While in Pinar del Río a man indicated as responsible for multiple robberies of electric tricycles was arrested.

These facts highlight a climate of growing insecurity, where the police act almost always afterwards, when the tragedy is already irreversible. The lack of patrol and the slowness in the response as well as slight sentences generate distrust in the population, which in many cases is forced to act on their own, reducing and exposing thieves in the middle of the street.

A country plunged into insecurity

The September balance – at least 11 murders, 4 feminicides and 15 robberies – reflects the accelerated deterioration of citizen security in Cuba. The facts show that violence equally affects cities, rural areas and even religious spaces, while the population is at the mercy of a state that does not offer clear public policies or policies to stop crime.

The official discourse insists on talking about “citizen tranquility”, but the reality narrated by victims, neighbors and independent platforms reveals an increasingly vulnerable country, where violence has become part of everyday life and cannot be hidden under official speeches.
