Sandro Castro: “I am celebrating my birthday as a young revolutionary”

Sandro Castro

MIAMI, United States. – Sandro Castro, the most media-friendly grandson of the late dictator Fidel Castro, reacted this Monday to criticism for the promotion of his birthday party, scheduled for December 5. In a video posted on his Instagram accountCastro defended his “right” to celebrate as a “young Cuban revolutionary,” despite the economic crisis and the prolonged blackouts that affect the population on the Island.

“What I want to make clear is that I am celebrating my birthday as a young Cuban revolutionary,” declared the young man.

According to the promotional poster of the party of yoreguests will receive a welcome cocktail, Cristal beer, sparkling wine and, the first 20 women to arrive, a “shot of Tequila Rose.”

Castro lashed out at critics and called them “spokespersons for the United States.” “I am celebrating my birthday as a young Cuban revolutionary, with all my rights, in my place, in my business, where everything is always within the margin of legality and there will be a healthy environment,” he assured.

At another point in the live broadcast, and despite it being a luxury event in the midst of the crisis suffered by residents on the Island, he said: “What we have is to all be united in these moments of difficulty.”

At the conclusion of his message, Sandro Castro reaffirmed his loyalty to the regime: “I am with my homeland and with my country.”

For his part, the main organizer of the party, Carlos Rogelio Bolufé (identified on Instagram as “Carlucho Verde”), also defended the event through a video on Instagramin which he described the EFE bar as “the most humble place there can be in Cuba.” “This flyer [volante] “What we did is not to harm or offend anyone,” said Bolufé, who also assured that they had no intention of harming the people and reiterated his support for the “Revolution.” “Long live Canel, long live the Revolution, long live Cuba!” he exclaimed at the end of his message.

The EFE bar has been criticized for hosting luxurious events in the midst of the serious crisis that the Island is going through. It has even been the target of complaints for exclusive access positions, homophobicracist and classist, and because of their high prices (a night at the EFE bar can far exceed the minimum wage in Cuba).
