The Nicaraguan ex-guerrilla Dora María Téllez affirms that the latest actions of the regime Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, In relation to the constitutional reforms presented by the dictatorship and that will be definitively approved in the second legislature in January 2025 by the Parliament controlled by the presidential couple, they are a reflection of the fear that the government has of the repudiation of Nicaraguans and the isolation of international level.
«All these repressive actions seem unnecessary in a regime that has control of the Police, the Army, that has a state of terror over Nicaragua, the siege of people (…) but that is part of their fear and of course the fear increases. », says the ex-guerrilla.
For Téllez, the quick appointment of Rosario Murillo as co-president reflects that there is an urgent need for the dictatorship to clear the dynastic succession.
«Something is happening in El Carmen, something is happening because they have been in a hurry, they approve that massive constitutional reform where Rosario Murillo assumes complete and total power and Daniel Ortega goes into the background and then they begin a repressive campaign typical of the Ortega-Murillo », says Téllez.
Within the recent constitutional reform, the regime elevates Murillo to a new political figure on par with the presidency and grants the same level of power. In addition, the regime increased the presidential term to six years and extended the term of the head of the Army and of the Police. For Téllez, these reforms, added to the capture of religious and opposition members, seek to clear the way for Murillo in the face of an early succession.
According to the dissident, the pastoral letter sent by the Pope Francis This fear of the Ortega-Murillo family increases, as it makes clear the position of the world leader in support of the Catholic Church in Nicaragua the one that suffers repression and persecution after taking a critical position towards the dictatorship.
Téllez mentioned the rumor of the expulsion of more nuns and nuns from the country before December 31; However, he did not confirm the fact or name the source. He also condemned the recent expulsion of Monsignor Carlos Herrera, bishop of the Diocese of Jinotega and president of the Episcopal Conference of Nicaragua, who was expelled to Guatemala; and the priest Floriano Vargas, from New Guinea, exiled to Panama.
«The Ortega-Murillos want to control everything they can, they want total silence, because they are terrified of words, they are terrified of thoughts, they are terrified of Nicaraguans (…) they are afraid of journalists, they are afraid of “They are afraid of doctors, they are afraid of bishops,” said Téllez.
The opponent of the regime also recalled the recent cases of kidnappings carried out by the Ortega Police, among whom are the lawyer Julio Quintana, the doctor Arnoldo Toruño and the journalist Leo Cárcamo. The political leader called, through a video published on YouTube, on Nicaraguan opponents to continue standing in rejection of the regime.
