Sandinista dictatorship announces sweep of the State, disguised as “ordering, restructuring and redesign” for “savings and efficiency”

The dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo is showing its economic difficulties and has decided to “tighten” the belts in the bloated payroll of “each institution, project and its directorates,” according to a statement that it has disseminated through its social networks and Sandinista propaganda media.

According to the statement, after “evaluating the programs, their successes and challenges,” they have decided to implement a compaction measure, which they are trying to soften under the concepts of “organization, restructuring and redesign, in order to promote savings and efficiency in spending and public management.”

According to the regime in this statement signed by the Council of Communication and Citizenship, which has been led since its inception by Rosario Murillo herself, this “measure is aimed at generating greater availability of resources from the General Budget of the Republic, to strengthen direct attention and promote greater progress in each of the Proposals in development, to address and resolve pending challenges.”

The government spokesperson and first lady already projects that this disguised sweep will leave them with “savings” that will be used to “speed up responses to all pending procedures” and “optimize our human capital” to obtain “higher returns in public service,” the letter says.

Although there is no official count of the number of people working for the State, in recent years, Murillo herself, when announcing the delivery of bonuses or government gifts for public officials, has hinted at the figure of 160 thousand employees, although she has not specified whether this only includes workers in ministries and entities of the Executive Branch, or if this figure includes other branches, universities or mayors.

And although in this statement, Murillo refers specifically to institutions, projects and their directorates, it remains to be seen whether the compaction does not affect these other state entities that Ortega and Murillo manage under absolute subordination, regardless of whether they have autonomy or, on paper, institutional separation.
