Sandinista dictatorship accelerates persecution: 30 kidnappings and disappearances in one week

The regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo in Nicaragua has intensified its repressive strategy. According to the latest report from the Blue and White Monitoring (MAB), between November 22 and 28, at least 30 arbitrary detentions have been recorded, accompanied by multiple reports of forced disappearances that are still in the verification process. The families of those detained denounce that they have no information about their whereabouts or condition, which worsens the human rights crisis in the country.

Pattern of repression and forced disappearances

The report highlights that the arrests have been carried out without court orders and with excessive use of force. The victims have been taken from their homes in the middle of the night and, as always, deprived of access to lawyers or contact with their families, in clear violation of basic human rights. These actions are part of a systematic pattern that seeks to eliminate any form of political opposition in the country.

“These practices not only violate the fundamental guarantees of the victims, but also seek to establish a climate of terror that silences society,” says Blue and White Monitoring.

Faced with this new repressive wave, the Blue and White Monitoring makes an urgent call to the international community to apply “urgent actions to pressure” the Ortega dictatorship to release the detainees and stop the persecution.

They also demand “access to the country by international human rights organizations to investigate these violations and provide protection to the victims.”

Finally, the organization calls for “active” solidarity from Latin American governments to “contain the escalation of state violence.”

The document emphasizes that the life and integrity of those detained are at serious risk and warns that international inaction could aggravate the situation.

Forced silence

The Blue and White Monitoring warns that this figure of 30 opposition prisoners locked up in the latest attack represents “only a fraction of reality.” He adds that many of the victims and their families prefer to remain silent for fear of reprisals.

“The climate of repression has reduced the possibilities of fully documenting the magnitude of the violations,” the report concludes.

An alarming context

Since 2018, Nicaragua has been mired in a political crisis characterized by systematic repression against dissident voices, including journalists, activists, opponents and members of civil society. This new wave of arrests confirms that the regime’s repressive machinery continues to operate with total impunity.

Some of those arrested

But due to the forced silence of the relatives, in recent days, the media has documented drop by drop some of the cases of new prisoners who would be on this list of 30 collected by the Blue and White Monitoring.

In this medium we reported last weekend about the imprisonment in the department of León of the journalist Leo Cárcamo and the doctor and former dean of the UNAN-León Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Arnoldo Toruño.

Journalist Wilfredo Miranda, from the Divergent media, published on the social network

in the diary The Pressthe news was published about the disappearance of the journalist and tourist businessman Henry Briceño, from the municipality of San Rafael del Sur, west of Managua, who was also allegedly taken from his home by police in the weekend raid.

With this new roundup of opponents, the Sandinista dictatorship would have about 80 Nicaraguans in prison for exercising some type of opposition to the dynastic regime that has been screwed into power through violence, imprisonment, electoral fraud and the exile of dissidents. .
