In the midst of doubts about a possible contagion of covid-19, the attacker Alexis Sánchez and midfielder Arturo Vidal arrived in Santiago this Monday to join the Chilean team who must face a decisive match with Brazil, already qualified for the Qatar-2022 World Cup.
The concerns jumped when the Argentine striker Lautaro Martínez, Sánchez and Vidal’s partner at Inter Milan, tested positive for covid-19, which led the medical team of the Chilean team to isolate both players after their arrival in the Chilean capital, according to local media.
In a message on social networks, Sánchez showed an image of the PCR test that they did at the Santiago airport, which came out negative, as a way to reassure the fans. On the other hand, there was no information about Vidal.
Arturo Vidal was suspended for three games which prevented him from playing against Brazil. But FIFA forgave him a date and since he has already served the first two games of sanction, he may be against the verdeamarelha, if he is not infected with covid-19 again.
The arrival of the Chilean-English striker Ben Brereton is also expected, whose presence against the Seleçao is also in the offing due to an injury sustained in a match at his club, Blackburn Rovers, in the English second division.
Chile is sixth in the South American classification with 19 points, for now without a ticket to attend the World Cup in Qatar, but still with the possibility of reaching at least fifth position that allows him to go to a playoff against an Asian team.
After playing away to Brazil on Thursday in Rio de Janeiro, Chile will receive Uruguay five days later in Santiago on the final date of the qualifying round.
