The Chamber of Deputies declared in first reading the María Trinidad Sánchez and San Pedro de Macorís provinces as ecotourism, while unanimously approving a resolution that recognizes the historian Roberto Cassá, director of the General Archive of the Nation (AGN) for his contributions to culture.
The lower house also approved a group of resolutions in which legislators demand works for their localities.
The president of the CD, Alfredo Pacheco, He expressed that this legislative body grants well-deserved recognition to Dr. Roberto Cassá for his extraordinary professional career as an educator, writer and sociologist.

Meanwhile, the deputy Dilenia Santoscoordinator of the CD’s Recognition Commission, motivated the project, considering that for that legislative body and for the country, the distinction is a source of pride.
The draft resolution was proposed by national deputy Pedro Martínez, from Alianza País, who maintained that Cassá was the creator of the Institute of History of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), president of the Academies of History and Sciences of the RD, and director of the General Archive of the Nation (AGN)for more than 20 years.
For his part, the deputy Tobias Crespo, of the Fuerza del Pueblo party, highlighted the skills of the historian Cassá and his contributions to the teaching of Dominican history. He recalled that, before the arrival of Roberto Cassá, the AGN was a great disorder and that as a result of him taking the leadership of that entity, the historical memory of the nation is protected.
Ecotourism
After the Permanent Tourism Commission submitted its favorable report, the CD plenary session approved, in first reading, to declare the María Trinidad Sánchez and San Pedro de Macorís provinces as ecotourism. It points out that María Trinidad Sánchez has an area of 1,271 square kilometers, with a coastal plain, beautiful mountains, forests, rivers and waterfalls, with a natural beauty that constitutes a powerful ecotourism potential. It aims to conserve ecosystems and contribute to the development of local communities.
