San Marcos: Rector Jerí Ramón will face criminal complaints for acts of vandalism

The internal elections in the National University of San Marcos (UNMSM) were suspended for the moment. The decision was announced after the takeover of the university headquarters by students last Thursday, which gave way to a violent and vandalistic eviction promoted by the rector. Jeri Ramonwho will now have to face criminal complaints for at least four alleged crimes.

Jeri Ramon She was summoned today to the University Council for the violent actions against the students. Although the authority condemned the acts, it also admitted having had communication with the head of security at the university before the violent entry.

“In San Marcos there are third parties. What I asked for security chief It is that he has all the third parties so that they work even at dawn and that he reinforces. When I called the head of security, he told me that the third parties were going to enter at night,” commented the rector in her speech.

These “third parties” were identified by the students as the vandals who entered with blunt objects with the clear purpose of committing attacks. These people entered along with the university security personnel.

A student told The Republic that the university’s security personnel, the group that the rector called the “third parties” and another group of students who are “servile” to the current management previously gathered in the vicinity of the Central Admission Office (OCA). This would reveal the prior planning and organization for the violent entry to the university.

The very fact that the access occurred through the OCA reinforces the hypothesis about the complicity that existed with the administrative staff subordinate to the rector Jerí Ramón.

Criminal complaints

The parliamentarian Susel Paredes filed a criminal complaint with the Public Ministry against the rector Jerí Ramón, for the alleged crimes of usurpation, serious injuries and minor injuries.

The complaint processed by the legislator also reaches the academic vice-rector, Carlos Cabrera Carranzaand to the administrative vice-rector, José Segundo Niño Montero. The document contains the names of 17 students who were injured.

Susel Paredes states in the complaint that Jerí Ramón was aware that a group of strange people was going to enter the university, according to the same statements made by the rector.

A similar complaint was processed by the María Trinidad Enríquez Community Legal Center, including the crime of omission of duties.

A student victim of physical attacks, who had to have a head wound sutured with four stitches, told our editorial team that only in the hospital where he was treated in an emergency there were five other people waiting to be treated. For this reason, it was estimated that more than twenty people were affected.

According to him, for now they are gathering information with the support of lawyers, in order to present what would be a third criminal complaint against the rector. Jeri Ramonfor the serious injuries caused.

Nullity requirement

The suspension of the electoral process was announced by the University Electoral Committeewhose composition is also questioned for operating in accordance with the interests of the rector Jerí Ramón.

Faced with this scenario, the students have spoken out to demand the absolute annulment of the process, for being contaminated with fraudulent practices that resulted in the presentation of a single list for the University Assembly.

The historian Carlota Casalino He told this editorial team that there was a systematic attack through attacks against applicants who were adverse to Jerí Ramón’s management in different instances.

Casalino detailed that she was running for dean of Social Sciences, but three main teachers on her list for the Faculty Council were crossed out: Ruth Shady, Mercedes Giesecke and Alberto García. This practice has been common in the other faculties, in order to dismantle the opposition.

The teacher warned that the most serious thing was the boycott for the registration of the opposition list for the University Assembly, since only a list related to Jerí Ramón was in the race.

If this option is maintained, the rector could be re-elected in 2025 with the support of a bill from Congress, through which it is proposed that the highest university authority be elected only by the University Assembly.
