The Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM) announced its expansion and decentralization plan, which includes the opening of new headquarters in the cities of Sayán, Arequipa and Tacna.
This expansion process is added to the recent opening of subsidiaries in towns such as Villa Rica, Chilca, Huarmey, Chancay and Huaral, in the small north of Lima.
“The dreams of continuing to grow continue, and we will move forward with decentralization. We are currently in Villa Rica, Chilca, Huarmey, Chancay and Huaral, and soon we will also be in Sayán, Arequipa and Tacna”said Rector Jeri Ramón Ruffner at a recognition event for students of the “Sanmarquinos para el Perú” program.
In relation to Sayán, the mayor of the district, Jesús Torres Jara, met with Ramón Ruffner last August to advance the creation of a San Marcos branch in the area.
As part of the agreements, a market study will be carried out to identify the professional careers most appropriate to the local reality, prioritizing areas linked to the agro-export sector, such as Agroindustrial Engineering, Port Administration, International Business, Tourism, Gastronomy, Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics.
Likewise, in September, the authorities of San Marcos received the mayor of La Yarada Los Palos, Samuel Cueva, who expressed his interest in having a university headquarters in Tacna. Both parties agreed to collaborate in making this proposal viable, in order to offer new educational options to young people in the southern region of the country.
The rector also highlighted other projects that will be developed in the short term, such as the implementation of the Huawei Training Center, in collaboration with the People’s Republic of China. This center will provide advanced technology to both students and faculty at the university.
