MIAMI, United States. – The Pinar del Río municipalities of San Luis and San Juan y Martínez received the greatest blows from Hurricane Ian in the early hours of this Tuesday, according to the images published on social networks and preliminary reports from local media.

In addition to the destruction caused by the intense winds, San Juan y Martínez also reported the most significant accumulated rainfall until 9:00 this Tuesday morning, with 202 millimeters.

Throughout the early morning, hurricane-force winds, exceeding 120 kilometers per hour, were maintained in the territory of Pinar del Río. While in San Juan and Martínez a gust of 208 km/h was reported, in the city of Pinar del Río one of 184 km/h was reported.

According to the Forecast Center of the Meteorology Institute (INSMET) of Cuba, the hurricane-force winds will have a tendency to decrease from the end of the morning.

At 9:00 am on Tuesday, Ian’s center was located at 22.8 degrees North latitude and 83.6 degrees West longitude, on the north coast of Pinar del Río, near Puerto Esperanza.

At that time, the category three hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale maintained maximum sustained winds of 205 kilometers per hour and was moving north at 19 kilometers per hour.

According to INSMET, in the next few hours Hurricane Ian will have little change in its organization and intensity and will continue heading north, gradually moving over the southeast of the Gulf of Mexico and moving its center away from Cuban territory.
