San Lorenzo wins again while waiting for Iker Muniain: "It's up to him now"

Just as he never despaired with the ball in his time as a wise manager, Leandro Romagnoli now acts with total calm as a coach. With that style, Pipi addressed the possible incorporation of Iker Muniain after the match against Platensein Vicente Lopez.

“We had an interesting and very nice chat about football, telling him what our idea was and the history of San Lorenzo. We talked with him for over an hour. He knew a lot about the club and we noticed he was interested. Afterwards, he asked for a taxi and went to tour the facilities on his own. The offer has been sent. We did everything possible. We’ll have to see what he says. Now it’s up to him. Hopefully it can happen,” said Romagnoli in relation to the contact with Iker Muniain held last week in Buenos Aires.

The Barça coach said it all after his San Lorenzo (and soon Muniain’s San Lorenzo too?) beat Platense 1-2, in a match played on a difficult pitch after two days of almost uninterrupted rain in Buenos Aires. The Ciclón won with a penalty converted by Iván Leguizamón. The Calamar tied the score by the same route with a shot by Mateo Pellegrino. And the winner was Elián Irala, the promising midfielder for the Cuervos, who scored his second consecutive goal with mid-distance shots, with a nice shot from outside.

San Lorenzo thus breathes fresh air into its reality and eagerly awaits the response from Muniain, who Romagnoli dreams of as a conductor, to control the ball, the timing and feed the forwards. Iker’s response will arrive in the next few hours. The club is optimistic… We’ll have to wait.

San Lorenzo was the only big team to win on Sunday in the 13th round of the Argentine league. The derby between Independiente and River, in Avellaneda, ended 0-0. All despite the fact that El Rojo was left with one man less after 11 minutes due to the expulsion of Santiago López.

Marcelo Gallardo’s team did not take advantage of the numerical advantage. They were not clear and had a hard time creating goal situations, a deficit that has been repeated. El Muñeco has not yet managed to provoke a footballing reaction in the millionaires, to the point that in the domestic tournament they have not yet captured a victory: 4 played, 4 tied.

“Argentine football is like this: there is a lot of fighting, there is a lot of protesting and there is not much playing. As far as our game is concerned, we need to be more decisive in the offensive part,” analysed Gallardo, who was optimistic: “We are going to play better.”

Racing, in turn, lost 0-1 to Atlético in Tucumán. The Academy created several goal-scoring opportunities, but did not score. And the home team knocked them out with a good finish by Renzo Tesuri. The goalkeeper of the Avellaneda team, Gabriel Arias, was clear: “They ran more, they always had two men against one of ours. We needed to be more intense and define.”

The remaining big team, Boca, had played on Saturday and had beaten Rosario Central 2-1 at the Bombonera, a victory that serves to keep them in contention in a table that now has only one leader: Vélez, with 27 points and the best player by far. Second is Atlético Tucumán with 25. How many points do the teams with the most history have after thirteen games played? Racing (6th place) and Boca (7th) have 21 points, River 18 (10th place), Independiente 16 (18th place) and San Lorenzo 13 (23rd in the table).
