SANTO DOMINGO.- The San Isidro Air Base will operate as an alternative airport for the use of civil aviation in emergency situations, as reported Monday by Carlos Ramón Febrillet Rodríguez, general commander of the Dominican Republic Air Force (FARD).
Febrillet Rodríguez made the announcement during the signing of an inter-institutional cooperation agreement with the Ministry of the Presidency (Minpre) and the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC).
The general specified that the agreement seeks to strengthen the defense of the airspace and the operational safety of aviation throughout the national territory, and indicated that the institutions involved are making aviation history.
The agreement was signed by the Minister of the Presidency, Joel Santos Echavarria; the interim general director of the IDAC, Hector Porcella; and the Commander General of the Air Force of the Dominican Republic, Major General, Carlos Ramón Febrillet Rodríguez.
After the signing, Minister Santos Echavarría said that this agreement represents a positive impact on the strategy of the Dominican Republic, in which the air element is essential, and assured that the Minpre will follow up so that cooperation is as effective as possible.

“Both civil aviation and military aviation represent strategic areas of the Dominican institutional order, especially in terms of economic development and national security,” the official said.
On his side, Héctor Porcella, interim director of IDAC, stated that the spirit and purpose of the alliance fully corresponds with the objectives of IDAC’s Institutional Strategic Plan for the period 2021-2024, which is governed by the motto: “Changing the direction of safety”.
While the general Febrillet Rodríguez highlighted that, with this agreement, the institutions involved are making history at the aviation level, since they are going to have an alternate airport so that in the event of any contingency the planes can land.
With the signing of this agreement, the signatory institutions agree to implement various technical cooperation plans, technical-operational training in the aeronautical field, exchange information related to the statistical records of the sector and update the technical data of airports, aerodromes and clubs. aerial.
