PUERTO SILVER.- Starting this November 15 and throughout the month of December, on Saturdays and Sundays you will be able to enter the Museum free of charge Strength Colonial San Felipe in this Atlantic city.
This prerogative only applies to Dominican citizens, in an attempt to promote access to culture, the enjoyment of art and the appreciation of the national historical heritage, as reported by the General Directorate of Museums of the Ministry of Culture.
It is stated that the San Felipe military fortification was completed in 1577, being the only colonial monument preserved in Puerto Plata and around it is the entire history of the historic city also called “The Bride of the Atlantic”.
This museum has a collection distributed mainly in three museographic spaces made up of objects of archaeological origin that include ancient cannons, farming tools and all kinds of military props, much of them found in in situ excavations.
Likewise, its location is within the colorful Parque Litoral La Puntilla in the upper part of the Malecón, in the lateral area of the bay of Puerto Plata from where the Taíno Bay cruise terminal can be seen, and therefore the boats pass a few meters from its walls.
The director of the San Felipe Colonial Fortress Museum, Sole Fermín, expresses that this fort has multiple episodes in history from the 16th century to the dawn of National Independence, since the patrician Juan Pablo Duarte was imprisoned there.
Fermín invites the national population to visit said place so that through the tour with the museum guides and the use of the Audio-Guides, they can appreciate the great historical legacy that with the passage of time is found within the walls of that heritage property.
