Monterey, NL. The Governor of Nuevo León, Samuel Alejandro García Sepúlveda, held a meeting with the United States Ambassador to Mexico, Ken Salazar, where he followed up on the agreements reached in December in Monterrey, and in February of this year, in Reynosa; meeting in which the leaders of Coahuila and Tamaulipas also participated.
It should be remembered that in both meetings tables were established to work on areas such as the water plan, labor policy and economic development, in particular promoting the potential of the Colombia Bridge, as one of the main customs crossings between the two countries.
During the meeting, Ambassador Ken Salazar reiterated his willingness for the United States and Nuevo León to become partners in the search for a common benefit, such as detonating the Colombia Bridge, within the framework of the Ninth Summit of the Americas to be held performs in Los Angeles, California in the week of June 6 to 10.
“In the new Nuevo León, it is clear that to solve big problems, we must find solutions as a team and with the governments of the world,” García Sepúlveda stressed.
Governors Coalition Leader
On the other hand, it was reported that the state president, Samuel García Sepúlveda, was appointed president of the Coalition of Governors for Decarbonization from 2022 to 2024.
During the meeting, García Sepúlveda presented the projects that are being worked on: investment in new technologies for the reduction of pollutants through the creation of green taxes.
“I feel very proud to take this position and that Mexico can fight for climate change at a global level, and that Nuevo León sets the example and leads this battle that is very important for our country,” he said.
He added that there is currently much to thank California for, “I appreciate the struggle that the governor, his administration, like the previous ones, decided to take a step forward and start setting global agendas on climate change.”
In Nuevo León, he said, green transport is being implemented, with the acquisition of 110 electric units for public transport, as well as 1,600 more low-emission trucks.
García Sepúlveda stressed that through specific actions it will be possible to combat climate change, the water crisis and favor the environment, to have better conditions for citizens.
Within this association of governors and mayors, Samuel García learned about the cases of other regions of Latin America in which climate change has severely affected, with extreme drought.
He trusted that the panorama of Nuevo León will be different, because the construction of the Libertad dam will be completed, and the El Cuchillo II aqueduct will begin, as well as the opening of more shallow and deep wells, as well as water treatment plants.
He noted that this group of governors is going to prepare a roadmap for the work of COP 27, which will take place between November 7 and 18, 2022, in Egypt.
According to Egypt Today, the Summit will be held in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheik.
