Samper visited dialogue tables between the Colombian government and the ELN

The former president of Colombia, Ernesto Samper, visited the dialogue tables between the Colombian government and the National Liberation Army (ELN) that are taking place in Venezuela.

«There is another dialogue, on Venezuelan soil, the one established between the Government of Colombia and the ELN, yesterday @ernestosamperp visited the work tables,” Radio Nacional de Venezuela published on his twitter account.

The former Colombian president listened to the assessments of the parties and expressed his support for the dialogue process, which is taking place at the Humboldt Hotel in Caracas.

Venezuela is the guarantor of the peace process in Colombia, along with Cuba and Norway.

Prior to the meeting with the dialogue tables, the former president held a meeting with the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, in Miraflores, where he addressed the great challenges of the Latin American region and the scope of diplomatic and bilateral relations with Colombia.

The return to the dialogue table in Caracas is part of the initiative of the Government of President Gustavo Petro, framed in his total peace policy.

Peace talks between the Colombian authorities and the ELN began in February 2017, during the administration of then-President Juan Manuel Santos (2010-2018).

Then, they were suspended in August 2018 by President Iván Duque (2018-2022).
