Cuba reported this Friday, December 6, that as of April 1, 2025, Cubans residing abroad will not be able to return to their country with an expired passport and that they will only be able to do so with a valid document. This measure eliminates the exceptional rule that was in force since the covid-19 pandemic that authorized entry with this expired.
The general director of Consular Affairs and Attention to Cubans Living Abroad, Ana Teresita González, clarifies that the deadline to enter with an expired passport is March 31 of next year.
In the same way, the Cuban Foreign Ministry portal indicates that the “consular offices abroad are fully available and capable of providing this service, with the speed required, so that Cubans enter the country with their valid passport. from April 1, 2025.
The measure taken by Cuba is identical to the decision taken by Venezuela and announced on October 2 by the Minister of Transportation, Ramón Velásquez Araguayán, which prevents Venezuelans from entering their nation with an expired passport or only with an identity card. .
In Venezuela, it is necessary for its nationals living abroad to present their valid passports to enter the country.
The decision was implemented amid diplomatic ruptures with several countries that did not recognize the results of the presidential elections issued by the National Electoral Council.
