Santo Domingo.- With a delegation of six athletesthe Dominican Sambo Federation will take part in the Pan American Championship of this discipline that will be held from the 23rd to the 25th of this month in the city of Cuibá, Brazil.
The Dominican delegation left for Brazil on Tuesday and the athletes will compete in the following categories: Sports Sambo, Combat Sambo and Beach Sambo.
Gold medal winners at the 2024 Pan American Sambo Championships qualify directly for the 2025 World Games, which will take place from August 6 to 17 next year in Chengdu, China.

The athletes who will be in action at the Pan American Sambo Championship are: Luis de Jesús, in the 58 kilos; Tonito Feliz, in the 65 kilos; Francisco Guzmán, in the 71 kilos; Enmanuel Uribe, in the 98 kilos; Nayeli Pérez, in the 59 kilos; and María Peña, in the 65 kilos.
Confidence in Athletes
The head of the Dominican Sambo Federation, Eliseo Romero, expressed his confidence that the athletes will perform well and recalled that Francisco Guzmán, María Peña and Nayeli Pérez have won gold medals in the Pan American arena, and the others have won silver and bronze medals.
Dr. Romero is also president of the Pan American SAMBO Union (UPASA) and vice president of the International Federation (FIAS).
Dominican Sambo is interested in being considered to participate in the Central American Games in Santo Domingo 2026. This is seen as an alternative to add to the medal count. This is because the country is among the best in the region in this martial sport.
As part of the Pan American Sambo Championship activities program, the Pan American Congress will be held this Thursday, August 22. It will be chaired by Dr. Romero.
In 2023, Dominican Sambo held its Pan-American championship, in which athletes from 22 countries participated. This was the same as the Beach Sambo World Championship, in which athletes from 30 nations participated.
