One of the great queens of samba, Leci Brandão is the guest of the unprecedented edition of Samba in Gamboathat the TV Brasil airs this Sunday (22), at 1pm. Presented by Teresa Cristina, the program pays homage to the artist’s 80 years of life and five decades of career.
The girls have a relaxed chat and sing hits during the public broadcaster’s production. Throughout the attraction, Teresa Cristina highlights that, from a young age, Leci lived with big names in samba, such as Cartola and Dona Ivone Lara. Leci Brandão remembers that his compositions addressed important themes in the 1970s, during the military dictatorship. When talking about blackness, social inequality, the role of women in society, religious intolerance and sexual diversity, the samba singer expressed her struggles through music.
“I always tried to make art a way of defending people, regardless of the issue,” he says. Leci says that, as a result, he had to face difficult comments and situations throughout his career, but that he has no regrets: “Even though I spent a few years away from record companies and the media because of this, I was born to truly fulfill this mission. ”
