In its statement, the sector highlights that its proposal seeks a “sustainable Montevideo, capable of integrating the demands and needs of citizens with the unavoidable commitment to achieving greater development and a better quality of life for all.”
Schelotto, with a recognized professional career, has had a prominent role in the Frente Amplio at the departmental and national level. La Vertiente emphasizes that he is a “comrade with a unitary, articulate spirit and with great political experience in the organization of the Front, as well as in government responsibilities.” Among his background, it is noted that he has worked since 1990 in the Municipality of Montevideo alongside leaders such as Tabaré Vázquez and Mariano Arana, culminating his work as National Director of Housing between 2016 and 2020.
The proposal led by Schelotto aims to consolidate a city model that is an example of innovation and sustainability. According to the statement, it is not only about maintaining the Frente Amplio government, but about “innovating, deepening and consolidating a progressive project in constant change, to advance towards a city and a department at the service of those who live in it.”
Furthermore, La Vertiente raises the need for a capital with metropolitan projection, that articulates with national policies and faces contemporary challenges with an integrative approach: “A Montevideo that imagines itself towards the future as an example of innovation and commitment to the environment and that integrate all people.”
La Vertiente Artiguista emphasizes the collective nature of this initiative, calling on all sectors to work together to strengthen the political project in Montevideo and the rest of the country. The statement concludes by highlighting that Salvador Schelotto’s candidacy is presented as an option of “service to the Montevideans”, in the search to continue moving towards a more just, inclusive and transformative Montevideo.
