Salto vibrates with the 25th anniversary of the recreation of "La Redota"

With the participation and organization of the Friends of Salto Historical Heritage Commission and the support and sponsorship of the department’s Intendancy, the 25th anniversary of the recreation of “La Redota” is carried out between last Friday and today Sunday.

The mayor of Salto, Andrés Lima pointed out that this is an activity that has been carried out in conjunction with Concordia for 25 years. There is a commission made up of Salteños and Concordienses and in this way the exodus of the Oriental People is recreated. “It is to remember the crossing of Artigas and the town at the height of Salto Chico, in the area of the Ayuí stream, on the Argentine side, where Artigas stayed with all the people who followed him for nine months.” “This is a way of remembering and keeping in mind part of our history,” Lima told Diario la R.

Twenty-seven sharecroppers from Salto participate in this meeting, where in the Vaimaca Pirú Park, each of these sharecroppers has their own ranch.

Last day there was an exchange of flags in the Uruguay River between the mayors of Salto and Concordia. “This is an event that is gaining strength and we hope it will consolidate the integration between both cities,” said Lima.

“We begin once again to remember the immense feat of a people and their leader who preferred exile to tyranny. Our Eastern Falls and the Ayuí are witnesses. That’s where we come from,” she said. The program of activities began two days ago, with a projection of photos from previous editions and the realization of the Market called July 18. On Friday night, the Departmental, Youth and SaFa choirs performed, performing “Cantata a Artigas”, which details some events in the life of General José Gervasio Artigas.

For yesterday Saturday, the activities began at 10:00 am with the act in Plaza Artigas, followed by a parade on horseback through Uruguay street, with the participation of sharecroppers. At 12 noon yesterday, the flags of both countries (Uruguay and Argentina) were raised at the mouth of the San Antonio stream, next to the monument to La Redota “Eran Miles”.

At the opening on Friday, the folk dance groups Transitando Huellas and En los tiempos de Artigas participated, inaugurating the 25th edition of the event. The commemoration of this 25th anniversary continues today Sunday at 10 am and 3 pm respectively, with shows of Creole skills and a support group for the tradition of Salta in the Vaimaca Pirú Park.
