Salto Airport will be modernized and will receive an investment of 12 million dollars

The Minister of Defense, Javier García, participated, this Friday 22, in the act of transferring the management of the international terminal of Salto, Nueva Hespérides, to the company Aeropuertos Uruguay, of the América Airports Corporation. The infrastructure remodeling works will begin in the second half of 2023 and will generate 150 direct jobs. “It is a good example of State policy,” the hierarch stressed.

Also participating in the event were the Undersecretary of Transport and Public Works, Juan José Olaizola; the director general of the Ministry of National Defense, Fabián Martínez; the mayor of Salto, Andrés Lima; the commander in chief of the Air Force, Luis De León, and the national director of Civil Aviation and Aeronautical Infrastructure (Dinacia), Gaetano Battagliese.

García highlighted the State policy present in Uruguay, since the creation of a National System of International Airports is a joint effort sustained over time, part of whose development process took place in previous administrations.

He also pointed out that the works are part of a decentralizing strategy of the Government. “This morning we are opening Salto to the world”, he reflected, and stated that an investment of more than 12 million dollars will be available for the reform. “They are going to have adequate runway, airport terminal, services with possibilities to show Salto and grow”said.

As of this transfer, the company will begin to manage and operate the facilities, within the framework of the development and modernization plan for the air terminals.

The work schedule includes LED beacons for the runway and lighting with this technology on the platform, the terminal and the parking lot. In addition, a new approach lighting system will be incorporated, among other works to improve operational safety.

On the other hand, the office spaces of state entities will be refurbished, equipment for firefighters will be acquired and a fiber optic ring and a new security system will be installed, starting in the second half of 2023.
